I've been reading a lot of posts about teaching and living in Jakarta. I'm American, my boyfriend is from Jakarta. We are moving there sometime this year. My best option is to teach English. Does anyone know the best schools there and what the pay generally starts at? My boyfriend has been in the US for 15 years so he's unsure of what to expect. We will stay with his mother, so I won't need housing but until he gets his business in line, I'll be the only provider. Will I make enough for us to be okay? |

It would help to have some idea of your educational background and teaching experience so as to give you accurate advice. |

that is the funniest thing i have ever read on this forum...... Found Waldo........ u are the man.
Sheena123........ if your only qualification is that u are a native speaker, then u will probably be looking at ef, the LOWEST paying teaching job in indonesia. personally i dont think it is enough for 1 person let alone 2. but i u are mooching of the in-laws, u might just make it. hope u are bringing wads of cash and that your bf can set his business up quickly and that it starts turning a profit from day 1.
indonesia is awesome, but languages schools wont get u too far. except of course for EF, which are highly recommended and stand head and shoulders above the rest of the language mills... lol |

LOL. The only 'high recommendation' you will ever encounter is one written by EF public relations. That said, some branches in Indonesia are perfectly tolerable as an 'entry-level' position. |
