Hi guys,
A student approached me yesterday and would like to request for private tutoring for the National College Entrance Examination in June. She specifically wants instruction in Oral English.
Is there a site where I could browse for reviewers of the said exam?? Also, any of you have any experience tutoring students for this exam or teaching them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had no luck finding a website, but there's bound to archived copies somewhere. Try asking your school admin.
Right now I'm teaching a science course geared to that exam, as there's significant reading comprehension in it. As for oral English, I'm not sure how much weight that's given on the NCEE. My guess is not much, as since the 3rd level senior classes at my school don't have the laowai conversation classes. They're too busy prepping for the test, which I understand is mostly science-based.

The "gaokao" has 5 parts and the English part has no oral section....

Look at "oral English" as a kind of extra-curricular activity and forget about rigorous examination rules; if I have to give one of these accursed and silly "oral" lessons I won't tell my students what they must learn; rather I will require them to speak about certain topics that might crop up in their particular lives in a spontaneous fashion.
Your student no doubt wants to memorise those sound bites. |

hmm.. ok.. she shown me a copy of a news article which she translated to english. It's mostly watching a film and roleplaying.
The Oral English Exam for NCEE is an elective for those who want to study foreign languages.
I'll try and ask the freshman university students then.. though what I'm doing right now is more like topical conversations.
Steve.. thanks for trying.. Roger.. thanks for the advice.. I know how they really want to be spoonfed with their exams. I'll check the bookstore as well though. |
