I have been offered an elementary position in Nantou starting July 1. The pay is 52,500 for 25 teaching hours per week. It does not include housing. I am a 39 year old white American who is single, and most recently taught in Cebu City, Philippines. What is life going to be like in Natou? Will I have a dating life or just be horribly alone and bored? Is it easy to get to Taichung on the weekends? Again, I'm single and hoping to be married someday. Are women in Natou going to be receptive to a foreigner? Will I have any form of a social life? How much is an apartment going to cost me there? Is there internet service available? Anything you can tell me will be greatly appreciated. Also any website links. Thank you in advance.

Hello KC,

Those Filipinas are pretty cute. Just wondering how you left the Philippines without one!

I'm sure you can find an apartment for $6,000 NT/month. Bills are usually pretty cheap in Taiwan, at least compared to the US.

I hope others will post. Best wishes.

kimcordle, good luck trying to find women outside of your school who can have a conversation in English. Maybe you will have to go to Taichung on the weekend.

In Nantou? Highly unlikely.

Yes.

No to the social life. However, you may find some Taiwanese women curious enough to test drive the foreign model. Wink Wink Wink

A bachelor suite shouldn't cost more than 6000 NT per month. If you want a full-on apartment, expect to pay at least double that.

Internet is readily available throughout all of Taiwan.

Don't go to Nantou. You'll be going to Taichung or Chung Hua every chance you get, so settle for either of them instead.
