As the interest rates here are so low I was wondering whether to invest a percentage of my salary in some stocks and shares. One major problem with this is that i have zero knowledge about the market or how I would go about getting started.
Does anyone have a good broker or can anyone recommend a good way to get started? I am thinking of a figure somehere near to 1000 HKD a month to start with, so it really is small time..... |

If you're only going to put up $1,000 a month, in most cases that won't be enough to buy even one lot, which in HK in most cases is 500 or 1000 shares, unless you're playing around with penny stocks. You'll also have commissions and stuff to deal with.
Lots of brokers around. Banks do it but tend to be expensive. KGI is pretty good for online trading, and they do have a monthly savings plan at $1,000 per month (according to a quick google search).
Anyone else? |

Not sure of the minimum required, but HK bank have a monthly stock saving scheme. You can find it on the hsbc.com.hk website |

Why not just open up a regular account at etrade or scottrade. Research the company that you like and save up enough to buy in chunks, instead of a set amount a month. |
