My school is deducting income tax from all foreign teachers housing allowances. Is this right? From what I can find on the net, they should not be doing this. Any concrete info available please?

Do Americans pay income tax for their first 2 or 3 years here. I am told, yes they do, and no they dont, and hit a brick wall with internet info. If anyone can help I would appreciate that.

Also, my school has deducted money from my housing allowance for three days I had sick. They say I wasnt as school, so not eliglbe for housing allowance for those days. It is NOT in my contract, I was never told. The school says it was in the older contracts, deleted and they will reinstate this. The rule is in their computer system, in Chinese somewhere. I had 10 days off in June, allowable in my contract, personal leave, with permission given by the school, and they want to deduct my housing allowance for those days too. I am fighting them, (nicely) over this, but dont expect to get anywhere. Does anyone have any suggestions please? The have deducted these sick days etc for all foreign teachers for some time, but they, and I quote them "refuse to repay me or they would have to repay all the others too."

Any help will be so much appreciated. Thanks

Might be better to post this in the china forum since the specific answers you seek are country specific.

ttompatz meant you should post this in the China forum here, not newbie forum, and I agree.
