Hi all,
I need information regarding KAU. I have few questions.
Q-1 Working conditions of KAU( Timings, dress code in female section e.g Abbaya is compulsary, but is it possible to move in female campus with out abbaya)
Q-2 Should I have to bring my resourses or they have set curriculum(Text Books) to teach in ELI.?
Q-3 Should i have to reserve hotel room by myself or University will provide me hotel at the begining and if they will provide hotel then how long?
Q-4 University is offering me 17000 riyal for rent. Is it enough to rent flat near to university? |

Hey direct hires work from 9:00 to about 12:00 at the earliest or 2:30 if you have a later class. It all depends if you are a co-ordinator or not. If you don't have a morning class you don't have to go in and if you don't have an afternoon class you get to leave early too. Things change though but right now they are really relaxed with that.
You do not have to wear an abaya as soon as you get on campus. Long skirts and tops that cover at least your shoulders with sandals. You can read what I have written on the other threads if you want more info on that.

They will provide you with your textbooks for the set curriculum (they are changing the books so I can't tell you which ones they are using). There is absolutely no resources whatsoever! Bring your own grammar reference books and especially supplementary games and activitie books.

Not sure about this one as I am working through an agency.

Is this for a month or a year? I don't even think that would cover renting a cheap flat for a year... Not sure but you definitely won't get a compound for that if that is your yearly allowance. For example a small bachelors apartment in Arabian Homes is SAR 90 000 a year (although it is one of the top two compounds in Jeddah). I heard Saudia City rents by the month... I would suggest checking out Amoudia compound (it is smaller but I think cheaper and in Ghaladiya which is a nice area). I can try get the contact info for you if you you PM me.
I really like KAU, I think it is much easier for females as our students are better behaved than the KAU male students. Unfortunately, my husband was given a direct hire offer he couldn't refuse in Riyadh so I am moving to a direct hire job there too. Jeddah is nice and if you are easygoing and tolerant of cultural differences you should do well |

Q3 - You should ask KAAU about this... how would we know?
Q4 - Yes, SR. 17,000 is enough for a 2-3 bedroom apartment. But it will be completely basic and completely unfurnished. The cheapest compounds will run you SR. 30,000 to SR. 45,000 for a 1-bedroom, SR. 45,000 to SR. 60,000 for a 2-bedroom place. |

For that housing allowance in Jeddah you are looking at squalor and misery. Most of your questions should be directed to your employer. |

We're currently in Riyadh right now and can say for sure that it is not for us. This sity is for the yung and restles. We are not too inclined to this hustle & bustle because we are of the older species. Yung first timers to Saudi should come hear to get through the teething prosess. Some of us older folks do prefer the quieter locations. MOD edit. Some have quite diferant versions of paradise and this version is also relative because in the end you are still in Saudia.
Essentially the mess-age is thisss. Beware of snakes and have a snake stick handy for when you do come across one. It is better to move them (snakes) non violently than to incur bad karma by killing them. I am metaforikally speekink uf korse. If you do run across a reel snake then do run, and run fast.

Sorry Amoudia is a compound specifically for a hospital but I was at Mura Bustan Compound today and it is quite nice and much cheaper than Arabian Homes. Maybe 40 000 for a one bedroom. So I guess that works out to 3000 SAR rent with your 17 000 allowance but well worth it if you want the freedom of a compound. That is if you work for 9 months and have 3 months vacation.
Just trying to be helpful and talking from experience but everyone is different and you may prefer to stay in a cheap apartment. Personally, I don't stay on a compound at the moment but I spend a lot of time with friends on compounds and there is a difference in the freedom available if that is what you are after. If you wanna save then a compound is definitely not for you. |

I never stay in five star hotels especially when there is a seven star hotel I can stay in when I'm in Dubai. I wonder why I can't pay my debts that I came here to work and save up for.
