Hi,
I'm wondering about whether I can leave previous jobs that went south off my CV. I took a teaching job in China last year, but things didn't work out- I was let go due to poor attendance at my classes- and the school was wiling to stamp a letter saying that I was not fired due to professional misconduct.

Having done a CELTA course, I am now applying for jobs once again. While it seems common sense to leave the above job off my CV, my previous visa will have been linked to the university at which I taught before- will that be an issue? Will my next employer find out about my previous job through my visa record?

I'd be grateful for any help or advice.

It would depend very much on the keen or not-so-keen eyes of the HR manager or interviewer.

I have interviewed many times before, and unexplained gaps in work records always raises suspicions with me.

If you left the job because of something outside your control, and have a letter to support that, I see no reason for missing it off. Better to be upfront about it. Leaving it out, even though nothing was your fault, would only raise questions later if it was found out.
