Looking Asian but being from a native English speaking country is less of a problem than looking Asian and being from an Asian country.
The former will have fewer problems, but there will still be problems with naive neolithic employers (and sometimes students) who think that perfect English cannot come out of an Asian face. |

My opinions are based on two years living and teaching in Taiwan.
Sadly, there does exist a certain prejudice against Asian American teachers because of their appearance. Parents want their kids to be taught by the tall, white, blonde teacher. Schools know this and will sometimes (and I emphasize sometimes) will not hire a teacher if they are Asian American.
It is silly really and I hope more schools stop this practice. |
