I'm 45 but look 32, tired of teaching in Korea for 7 years..
I am thinking of coming to Japan to teach
because of a) a less stress-free lifestyle
b) a chance to meet a girl for marriage(nationality not important
but Oriental prefered)
I only have a BA and expereince..
Are these goals misguided ..and what city would give me best chances?
I love Fukoaka but here the market is saturated there.. |

I presume you mean more stress free...
From what I hear, the job market isn't that great in Kyushu... Come to Tokyo... It provides lots of opportunities for everything. |

I agree. I knew several teachers in Tokyo that were over 40. I don`t think it`s a big issue if you are flexible and friendly. In fact, I think some employeers might prefer someone a little more serious since half of the teachers are kids out of college who are only planning on staying for a year.
The problem with Tokyo, from my experience, is that it can be difficult to change jobs / find a first job if you don`t have a gameplan and money saved. I would recommend finding a place to stay (either with a friend or a cheap gaijin house) and allow at least a few weeks and at least $200 a week just for BASIC expenses while you are looking. It seems like there are a lot of job options here, but with high rent and living expenses I`ve seen many people who want to stay just chicken out and head home because they are afraid to look for something else. Check the Japan Times online (Monday issue) for jobs and also a magazine called "Metropolis". It`s online too.
Good luck to you! |
