Hello,

I plan on coming to HCMC to teach in October. If accepted my CELTA program will start on OCT 11, 2010. I just want to clarify exactly what I need to teach legally and get a WP. I am still in the USA now, so I will bring everything with me. This is what I have garnered so far from the forum.

I need:

CELTA cert. or equivalent
Criminal Background Check
Original Degrees- I have a B.A. and an M.S. I should bring both, right? Also, do they need to be notarized if they are originals? If so, where can I get this done.
C.V.-I know this is like a resume, but it seems as though it might be a bit different. Any help in constructing one would be extremely helpful.

If there is anything I am missing, please help! I do not want to get to Vietnam and not have the proper documentation. Thanks.

BB

I'm sure lots of old hands here will have answers, but this is my bit. I've just been recruited from overseas by a reputable school. They have advised that this is what I need to bring for the work permit:

- original degree certificate
- original CELTA certificate
- criminal record check from my home country.

According to the school, I can get these things apostilled at my country's embassy in Hanoi (I'm British).

Others may well have a different take, but this is what I've been told and what I'm expecting to do. I hope it's right!

Good luck with the CELTA, btw. It's hard work but totally do-able if you keep on top of the work.

You *may* be able to do it other ways (with fewer stamps)... But don't take chances. Follow the exact Chain of Authentication, just like it's mentioned in other threads) for your diploma (one is enough; this gets expensive), your CELTA (not necessary to get the WP but can't hurt), and Criminal background check:

1. Get your university to notarize your degree, notarize everything else too
2. Get certification from State-level Department of State
3. The notarized degree (and docs) will then need to be sent to the US Department of State in Washington, DC
4. You send your degree (and docs) to either the Vietnamese Embassy (Washington DC) or Consulate (San Francisco)

once here...

5. After getting it authenticated from US side, you should bring all documents to Ho Chi Minh City Foreign Affairs Office for final authentication. 
6. Bring your authenticated degree to Notary Public Office to get it translated.

Your CV is a form you fill out and send with your WP. It's not the traditional CV you think it is. You'll do that here.

! Make sure your name is exactly the same on every document.
