In your experiences in renting apartments in Japan, what goodies & appliances are usually included?

a) A/C units?
b) Cooking ranges (gas ranges)
c) Refrigerators
d) Curtains...haha!

In my experience, only A/C has ever been included

If you're talking about what an employer's sponsored (recycled from other teachers) housing entails, I got...
a microwave
a gas range (table top version)
fridge
TV and VCR
curtains
washing machine
bedding for the futon
secondhand sofa
space heater
bare bones minimum eating utensils
lights

If you're talking about what's in an apartment you would rent on your own, there weren't even light fixtures, let alone anything on the above list.

The place I rented on my own had, if anything, too much stuff: A couple of beds (with blankets and sheets), a bunch of dishes, refrigerators, a couch, tables, chairs, bookshelves (with books, even), stereo, TV, VCR (admittedly it died recently, but beggars/choosers, right?), curtains, towels, phone, lamps, etc. etc. etc. Did have to pick up the kotatsu for the winter on my own, but that was about it. And all this in a place with no key money and a 5,000 (not 50,000) yen deposit. But then I've always been lucky like that...

I used to live in an apato. Now I live in a mansion.

In the mansion I have lights (although two bulbs were not working), two air conditioners, a humidifier, curtains, a little stand for my washing machine, etc. And a range. But I have a leaky faucet that has to get fixed.

But at the apato, nothing.
