Greetings,

Does anyone know of some good Japanese software for learning the kanji? (I don't know anything about Japanese, but I mean the symbols Embarassed ).

A friend of mine is doing a Japanese exam and has no access to resources and would like some kind of program to practice the most common ones, about 2000 in number.

Thanks,

Mike.

Where is your friend located? If they are in Japan, I would recommend heading to their local software shop and looking around in the kids educational section where you can pick up some pretty simple software for teaching kids the Grade 1-6 Kanji. These are equivalent to the 2000 or so you need for most communication. THis is what I did as foreign made stuff cost an unbelievable amount.

Or you can go online to
http://www.kanjistep.com/
or a personal favourite
http://www.kanjisite.com/

You can also try the following link for some software:
http://www.learninglanguages.net/SPT--BrowseResources.php?ParentId=10&StartingResourceIndex=30

Apparently the next one teaches you to write Kanji too:
kanjialive.lib.uchicago.edu/overview.htm

Some more kanji and so on sites:

www.rikai.com/perl/Home.pl
www.geocities.com/easykanji/
www.nihongoresources.com/

Cant vouch for any of them as I havent tried any of them except for the first one
