Hey Guys,
If everything works out, I will be arriving in HCMC on October 1 or thereabouts. I am going to be doing my CELTA at ILA, hopefully, my phone interview is tonight at 9pm EST. I am considering working for ILA due to the ease of transition, but as I will be on the ground I will also look for employment at other schools. I know that I need my original degrees notarized, but what is needed for a criminal background check. Will a local/state check suffice, or do I need an FBI check? I have found information on this forum that is wishy-washy, so help from an experienced veteran is most welcome. Thanks in advance!

No FBI. Go to your State police (are you in the US? Then go to State of X Dept. of Public Safety or whatever). Tell them you need this to teach in Vietnam and they'll stamp it correctly at the State level. Then send this to DC and then on to the Vietnamese Embassy (DC) or Consulate (SF). |

He needs to mail it to the Embassy or Consulate if he's doing a contract in the US before arriving in VN, correct?
Otherwise, can't he just bring it with him when he arrives, if it's notarized? |

First here: http://www.state.gov/m/a/auth/
Then to the Vietnamese Embassy in DC or the Vietnamese Consulate in SF.
Yes, do this before you arrive, regardless of any contracts. There may be exceptions, depending on the mood of the immigration office that day or whatever, but if you do this with you diploma, cert, and background check, nobody can say jack. |

Yikes, I was recently an email (unsolicited) to see if I would take a post at a language school in Bien Hoa. I replied that I was interested and asked what documents they wanted emailed. The asked for the usual.
At no point was it indicated that I would need to have my documents notarized or that I would need a background check. Locating a place for the latter last time was terrible. One law enforcement agency pointed to the next for that. No comments please, that is over and done with and I eventually got one. Don't know if a copy of it would suffice in the future though.
Sorry for the rambling. Is having a background check and/or having documents notarized required? |
