Guys know of one?

In China I just needed my passport and American dollars to send money home though this, was a fee, but not too worried about that.

Anyone know where western unions are in HCMC, and if their services are easy to use?

Almost every bank has a Western Union desk, BUT sending miney OUT of Vietnam is a NO NO. They are usually only good for RECEIVING money.

You will need to prove sopurce of funds etc to be able to send any out- Good luck! Have tried it a few times- frustration at every turn.

If you're working at a reputable school which pays taxes and supplies you with a payslip and a contract, then you should have no trouble sending money home. Works for me anyway.

k, it's really annoying the first time you try to send money out of VN. but every time after that you know how to do it and its really no big deal. You need to give them a bunch of documents. So make copies, because just showing the documents isn't enough. When I did it, I had to give them a copy of : my passport visa page and picture page, my school contract, and my last pay slip. I guess some banks might ask for a copy of your work permit or a copy of your vietnam tax code card. Prepare copies just in case. You give them all the copies, fill out the western union paperwork, pay a fee of $20 USD, then give them the cash that you're sending. You can't give them any VND at all. It all must be paid in USD, so go to the jewelry shop before the bank.

The big, giant, French, historically-awesome Post Office has Western Union. It's pretty obvious once you get in there. Just don't go there during lunch and you'll be fine. And, no, they don't do Money Orders Evil or Very Mad

another possible idea to get money out of VN. I've never tried this, but it might work. After being in VN for 1 year, you can get a Saccombank bank account with a ATM card that works internationally. They actually told me at least 6 months at one point, but when I went back to actually sign up for the account they said minimum one year. I had been in the country for over a year at that point and was able to get the account with an international ATM card. So, once you obtain the card, mail it to the person you want to send money to. Then have them go to the nearest ATM and withdraw cash. You can deposit money into the account while living in VN, and your friend can withdraw from an international location. Not sure if this is legal or possible, but on the surface it sounds easy.

And you don't need to be here a year, just deposit lots of the folding and you can have the card in 10 days. Never accept what the first bimbo tells you, ask, ask again. Go to Sacombank in PNL, they do it all the time, no 1 year min.
