This from the BBC..
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-11571822
Are we going to see a behind the scenes deal done so the UK's relationship is not put at risk? remember back in the 70's Death of a Princess and all the trouble showing that caused.
Interesting times ahead[/url] |

All the deals these people make are behind the scenes. Obowma bowing and kissing the hand of the "custodian of the sacred mosques". (I never knew that an emir could be a janitor too!) Then there was The first Gulf War followed by Colin Powell's visits to uncle Bandar's Colorado mansion and retirement gifts of his and her jaguarsand Tony Blair's and Prince Chuck's BAE contract scandal. These are just the ones we know about . Who says money can't buy happiness?! |

It's certainly true that the Brits always take great care not to antagonise the Saudis and thus put lucrative business contracts at risk.
However, given that the prince has already been tried and found guilty - of murder - it is hard to think how any sort of low-key 'face saving' arragement can now be reached. The time to do some sort of behind the scenes deal would have been before the case came to trial in a blaze of publicity. The most that might happen is that the prince will serve a few years in a British prison and then perhaps will, when the publicity has died down, be allowed to quietly return to Saudi ARabia and 'serve the rest of his sentence' there. |

I would not imagine that he will have an easy time in Brixton or wherever he is confined. |

OR, they can buy cancer specialists that say he has brain cancer (pun intended) and has only a few months to live and they'll let him out of "prison" where can return to the Life of Riley in Libya...er...the k.o.p....

Perhaps there was a secret agreement to construct the soon to be announced Edgeware Road Prison?

Or... he would be allowed to serve his whole sentence in Saudi Arabia (house arrest in his own palace in SA, but of course!).
Frankly, I would be shocked if a Saudi prince is ever imprisoned in the UK or the US, for any crime. |

Oh man, y'all gotta read The Daily Mail's report... as usual, they always have a load more details, both quantitatively and qualitatively!
Lots of juicy (and gory) details, including pictures... it is several times the length of the BBC article!

P.S. Thank Allah for this:

British Police were also confronted with embassy officials who tried to claim Saud had diplomatic status after he was arrested for killing Bandar Abdulaziz in February.
But although he does have the special status in some Middle Eastern countries, he does not have it in Britain, a check by police with the Foreign Office found. |

How murder exposed Saudi prince's homosexual life
Quote: |
A Saudi prince has been convicted of murdering his manservant, who was found beaten to death in bed at a plush London hotel. The defendant spent most of the trial trying to prove he was not gay. Why? |

It was reported the prince was ordering male escorts and checking out gay saunas in London. The dead guy, who reportedly just took the beating, had bite marks on his cheeks. I hope he does a long, long stretch in prison in England. |

Al-Megrahi was suffering from prostate cancer. He has been hospitalized in Libya for the last year. It is notoriously difficult to give a life expectancy to cancer patients, and the fact that he is being treated in Libya instead of a Scottish prison probably helps to extend his life span. |

Yes this is a terrible sick story; however, I fail to comprehend the need to post it on an ESL site?
Please enlighten me OP how this story has any relevance to anyone in the Tesl business.
Perhaps you should have posted it under the Current Events forum? |

I wonder how he will feel "banged up" in an English nick ? Will his co-religionists treat him with the respect that he feels is his due ? |

When 'Death of a Princess' was shown on TV back in the 70's the Saudia Government almost cut off ties with the UK. It threatened big defence contracts and many other jobs in the oil business. I would hate to see similar actions because a British Court jailed a Saudi Prince. This time it could affect EFL contracts across the Country, plus lots of other positions as well. |
