|
|
Hi everyone. I am VERY new to this. So I apologize if this has been asked before.
I have applied to many companies; Teachaway, Footprints, Gone2Korea, EF, CanConX ... I had interviews with some already ....
Just wanted some insight on them. Is there a difference with these recruiting companies?
Is it better to be hired through a company? Or from the school directly? |

It would largely depend on:
a) where you want to go
b) do you speak the local language
c) do you have contacts in the country you wish to go to.
If you answered yes to b) and c) then you should try going direct.
If you answered no to either b) or c) then the best choice for most newbies is to use a recruiting/headhunting service.
Some key things to remember when using a recruiter:
They do not work for you - they work for the school.
You do NOT pay the recruiter - the school pays for them.
(walk away from any recruiter that asks you to pay a fee).
They are NOT your friend.
They can't get you out of the crap if you land in a bad situation.
They are like used car salesmen - they are slippery and not always entirely honest when it comes to the schools they are selling. The DUE DILIGENCE is YOUR responsibility.
What they DO offer:
Contacts in places you have no hope of making contacts.
Assistance with the visa processing
The ability to communicate with your new employer when neither of you speak the same language.
Use as many as you need to find the job you want, in the country you prefer, with the salary and benefits package that is acceptable to you.

It looks like you are applying for a teaching job in South Korea. I would highly recommend working with a respectable recruiter if you are apply to the EPIK program, or one of the other public school programs.
The EPIK application process is notoriously long and complicated. Seemingly insignificant mistakes can ruin your application and prevent you from getting a job. Working with a recruiter who has done this year after year can help a lot.
Of the recruiters you listed, I've heard positive reports about TeachAway and Footprints. I would also add to the list Reach To Teach. They found me a quality job in Taiwan back in 2007.

Good luck! |
