Does anyone have any experience of the place they would like to share? Is there much to do, a large foreign population etc? Also I have heard conflicting information about which dialect they speak, I am keen to improve my Mandarin skills. |

Give it a pass. A hicktown in the middle of Jiangxi province. Last time I traveled through there, very little Mandarin spoken, and the locals kept trying to convince me that China was developing and going to overtake the West. You can do a lot better than this town. |

Lived in Ganzhou for a year just over a year ago. Yes, pretty boring, there's a tiny airport that flies to Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou (45mins) but train line is out a bit. Don't believe it when they say convenient train line- it's a killer to get tickets in the town! No Maccas but 1 KFC. There's a small wall surrounding the city and some little theme park with rides somewhere in town. Wouldn't go back to live there though, very hicksville (NOT a city by any means!) |

Thanks for the info, I spent a year as token white face in a Taiwanese hicksville, its not an experience I really want to encounter again. So I think I best give it a miss. |
