What are my current job prospects?


What form of distance learning would best improve my future job prospects in the UK?

Current prospects in the UK? Outside chance at a language school. Or, at a regular comprehensive school, maybe a Teacher Assistant or the like.

Future prospects? Without more schooling, the same. I can't really comment on what distance programmes would work for you, though.

Prospects for EFL: none. At the very least, I would just put your CV in the bin.

Prospects for ESOL: very poor - there are ever-increasing restrictions on the use of teachers who aren't PGCE/PGDE qualified in the public sector.

Get a degree, then get a PGDE if you want to teach ESOL in the UK.

Get a degree if you want to do EFL in the UK - CELTA-holding teachers are ten-a-penny here right now, and the British Council (the UK EFL sector accrediting body) normally requires that teachers hold a degree-level qualification. You might find that an EFL provider is willing to take you on over the summer peak, but they will have to write a rationale for your employment. Many EFL schools won't want to take the time and effort to do it given how it's so much easier to just hire someone with a degree and CELTA/Cert. TESOL...

Sorry, but from my perspective, you're practically unemployable in the UK EFL sector.

Sure - I've got quite a few friends working in the UK. However, they've all got far more serious quals and experience than those you mention.
