Agents of runaway maids make SR20,000 a month

JEDDAH: Passport Department officers have arrested 15 agents involved in employing maids who have run away from their sponsors. Each agent, according to police, makes SR20,000 monthly.

An informed security source told Arab News that police had also arrested a number of maids in recent raids. �We have learned that all these agents make a lot of money for this business and their monthly revenue amounts to an average of SR20,000,� the source said.

Security officers arrested the biggest agent of runaway maids in Jeddah, who is an Indonesian driver named Muhammad Ali, in a sting operation.

One of the officers told the man that he required a number of maids and the man agreed to bring them. He was, however, cautious in his movements in order to avoid arrest. At the same time, security officers in civilian clothes were following his movements.
