Hello, all. I would love to move to Izmir. What is average monthly EFL salary there? I have one year of experience teaching English to professionals, students, and diplomats in the US and a TEFL certificate. I received an offer for 2000 lira a month, but without housing or airfare. I know Izmir would be my top location in Turkey, but is that a livable wage?

I can be thrifty, but I would like enough to do some traveling and I don't have any savings to speak of. Would it be easy to find a cheap furnished bedroom. I would do roommates, or be willing to tutor someone in exchange for room and board.

Alternatively, I thinking of putting in my dues for one year in Saudi to get on my feet financially, but I would enjoy life so much more there!

Please advise.

I think that you might find a room and cover your living expenses on TL2000, just, but there will not be a lot left over, forget having fun.

Your level of comfort may be a bit less than what you are used to. If you don't have a problem sharing, that may improve things a bit. However, the salary is just a starting point, try to get a few private students, do not charge less than 60 tl per hour! Good luck!
