Hi there. I am looking into the possibility of teaching in Honk Kong fairly soon and have a few queries. (I am a 22 year old - White british male, born in the UK hence my first language is English).
Firstly; in HK would an online certicifcate (100 hours) ICAL be acceptable, alongside my degree (BA Business) and Masters (MA Human Resource Management) as enough to warrant finding work there?
I would like to do a CELTA but at the moment the expense is the issue and therefore I would opt for the online initially and then take the CELTA at a later date.
Also what do the working hours/days tend to be? I have heard from some that working days may be monday-saturday. This isn't an issue with me and i'm not complaining, just wondering if this is generally the norm?
Another significant question I have is around the 'Visa'.
How long would it take for me to obtain this once I have accepted a job over there? I have heard that it is harder to obtain a visa for HK than other asian countries, is this true?
The final question is; what kind of salary would be considered decent to live on for someone just starting to teach in HK? ( I have degree, masters, will get the tefl certificate - but no teaching experience besides very brief for work experience).
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me out with any of my queries. |
