I'm looking through my docs and my mom's birth cert doesn't have one. BUt on the translation there's one. So the translator made it up. I'm assuming there's a logical way to make cod numeric personal Does anyone know it?

Hi there,

The CNP is made up of the following numbers: SAALLZZJJNNNC

S = Sex - 1 for a man and 2 for a women if born in the 20th century, 3 for a man and 4 for a woman if born in the 19th century, or 5 and 6 if born in this century and 7 and 8 for foreigners.

AALLZZ = year, month and day of birth.

The first number (S) gives the century of birth so 1750204 would be a man (1) born in 1975 of the 4th of Feb.

JJ = The county of birth. Alba, for example, is 01

NNN = Personal number between 001 and 999. This is assigned by the county office.

C = Control number. This is calculated by using a formula (basically, each of the first 12 numbers in the CNP are multiplied by another number from a fix code (279146358279) according to it's position, so the first number in your CNP is multiplied by 2, the second by 7, third by 9, and so on. The resulting numbers are added together and then divided by 11. The C number is the remainder after this division with a remainder of 10 giving the code 1.

Basically, you can calculate your CNP except for the 3-figure code given out by the county authorities. That you'd have to find out somehow, probably from the GDEPMB.

Mike

Thanks so much. I guess the translator simply made up the number then. Because the birth dates don't match.
