Hey,
If I were to get a public school job my recruiter says it's normal to have classes on average of 45 students. I've a year exp. in a Korean hagwon so 45 students is a hell of a lot to me. But, I should be with an assistant, which would help.
So, what's it like teaching a class of 45? And, what's a China public school job like in general?
Thanks |

Forty-five? If it's a middle school, that's on the low side. If it's a university, then you can discourage the slackers from coming to class. |

My classes in a public high school have had between 25 and 36 students.
No assistants.
The students are between 14 and 16, but it is more like babysitting spoiled and lazy 8 to 10 year olds.
If you really do have an assistant, you should probably not expect much from him or her.
Why ? Because you are far more likely to be resented than appreciated. |

Doesn't sound too appealing. |

I always insisted that ALL students attend. Maybe I'll try this approach next semester |

Exactly. I pray your experience is an exception.
Last year I taught at a very good senior middle school, arguably one of the top three in the province, and class sizes varied between 43 and 58, average greater than 50. In the second year class, what Americans call juniors, there were more than 800 students, and I was expected to give each a mark in oral English. This is not exceptional. |
