I am looking for some information to process a work visa from UK.
How to do the medical test in UK? I have got the form from embassy
web site. Do I need to pay for the medical tests for the NHS GP? I
haven't got any private medical insurance. Do the employers (for eg.
KSU/KFUPM) refund expenses for visa process? Should I give notary
attested degree certificates?

Have you been made an offer from an employer in the Kingdom? Have they sent you a package containing your contract and visa number? Because without these, you cannot proceed with a visa application at all.

If you have a job offer from a Saudi employer, a) well done, and b) do not, under any circumstances, try to get the work visa alone. The Saudi embassy website is confusing and contradictory in the extreme; the only advice on there that you need to listen to is the page that says words to the effect that, "from now on you need an agent to get a work visa - here is the list of approved visa agents." Call a few of them up to get a best price out of them. If you can't find that particular page - it's well hidden - reply on this thread and I'll copy it direct from the site.

Believe me friend, do not do it on your own! I tried and damaged several walls with my forehead in the process.

As of autumn 2009 at any rate, I know for a fact that you do not need to use an agency to apply for a work visa via the London embassy.

Yes I do have an offer and the Visa reference number/formalities is on the way. Thanks for all the advises; I wouldn't even imagine doing this
without an offer. Let me come back to the original questions

1) Will the employer (KFUPM) refund the visa expenses? Medical test
will cost ~350 if I do it at a private clinic. If the employer pay
for it, it is absolutely fine. Otherwise, I will need to spend
around 750 for a visa (including my wife&son) which is gonna be tricky.

2) If not, can I approach GP'S working with NHS to fill the medical
test form (obviously free of charge/nominal charge if I have to pay
from my pocket)?

3) Do I need to get the medical test for my wife as well?

Thanks, I intend to use an agent for the Visa. I am more concerned about the medical test, as it coast around 350 (the cheapest quote I received so far)

Most though not all employers refund the costs of visa-related expenses upon arrival in KSA. The only way to be sure that KFUPM will pay these expenses is to ask them. Either way, you'll still have to pay the costs for medical tests etc up front and get reimbursed on your arrival in the Kingdom. Of course, if for whatever reason you did not get the visa (unlikely but possible) you would not be refunded.

Thanks Cleo, I will check with them. However KFUPM HR web site says they won't do it

Sorry but if you already knew that information, why are you asking posters here about it? The website you linked to is very clear:

Quote:
Q :5.8
Does the University reimburse for fees and expenses incurred in obtaining visas?

A :5.8
No. KFUPM does not make any reimbursements for such costs.

Sounds pretty unambiguous to me. KFUPM clearly is not one of the employers who reimburse employees for visa costs.

Well, it will depend on your GP.
Some GP will accept to sign the medical form, but your problem will be with the AIDS and chess X-ray tests, you have to make an appointment with the hospital which will take time, and you have to pay for these tests if you want to get a signed certificate from the hospital.

Yes. Double check with the Saudi embassy/consulate in London for any new regulations.

I will check with the GP. As you mentioned I will have to pay for X-Ray.

That is often the case, but I very much doubt it is in this situation. I would say that if their website clearly states that they do not refund visa expenses, then it means that they do not refund visa expenses.

It's a shame as visa-related costs can be considerable, especially if you have family coming with you. But the website seems pretty unambiguous. If you want the job, you're probabaly going to have to cough up the cash.

Dear Cleo,

True - but were it the reverse (i.e. that the website stated that expenses WERE refunded), well, THAT might prove to be otherwise once one got there.

Regards,
John
