Ihave been getting a few offers in middle east and need to decide which one to take
I have an offer from this university with a very good package they seem very keen to sign a contract asap

Can anyone share any knowledge and experience of this university

Don't know much about this university; however, on the Jazan U website, this is what was posted under the section - English Language Center-
very very strange... It also explains their keen need to sign you up asap

Introduction

Well, Jazan university used to be a branch of Khaled University in Abha, now it seems the Emir of Jazan decided to have his own university like Najran university, Tabuk university, Qassim university, etc. Do not judge the university from its web site, the reality in ground is completely different from what is advertised in their web site, and this is true for other new universities in the Magic Kingdom as well. Some years ago, I visited Jazan (also called Jizan) city and the famous Farasan island which is about 3 hours in boat from the coast of Jazan. the majority of the population are Yemeni descendants. The university itself is a very new one, and I guess the facilities are limited and most of the staff will be from Egypt, Sudan, Yemen, Pakistan, India, and probably very few with blue/green eyes!
To the south of Jazan is the border of Yemen, where you will meet the tribe of Houthi who are fighting the Yemeni government!
I recommend Jazan only to visit Farasan island, apart this, it would be better to look North West or North East of the Magic Kingdom.

If it was a choice between this place and the other interview you have mentioned here... I would definitely take the other one. The other surely pays less, but professional development and lifestyle will be better.

I'm sorry to tell you guys this but I had to decline the BC placement. I had another odd interview in saudi embassy yesterday.

I went there, they confirmed my qualifications and experience and they formalised a contract for their job on the spot, and sorted out most of the visa there and then. It was done so quickly, they never even asked me to sign anything they just gave me a photocopy of their contract.

The wierdest thing about it was the fact that all my other interviews ie with the BC they gave me a 20 minute grilling on my teaching styles etc. As for this interview I was the one who had to ask questions about the University.

You might think only a fool would take that job seriously, but the job came from an establsihed CELTA training institution from my area and they assured me that it was all legitimate.

All i need to do now is get a medical history form filled in. Who knows i might come back recommending this university for others

As I said in response to your tale on the Egypt thread. This sounds unbelievably fishy. Go for an interview and be signed up without allowing you any real input or decision? You have made it sound like you are being kidnapped and sent to Saudi.

The poor interview and process of hiring are HUGE warning signs to me!!

Personally I would call them tomorrow and say no thanks and head to the Cairo job.

I can see that you are seriously concerned with this.
All I can say for now is that they were very nice, but maybe just ignorant of interview formalites. They also did give me input on the package, but the 2 concerns were - they didn't try to find out who I was a person/teacher and - how fast everything happened, thats all.


I accepted solely because it was professionals from an established and trusted CELTA institution that took me to the interview. I trust that they will never send me somewhere dodgy. They promised me a good support team and that they will keep contact with me while i'm there.

I hope that you are right... but it feels very high pressure, unprofessional hiring. One problem one finds in Saudi is that the people that give such a good impression in the hiring are most of the time never seen again and have nothing to do with your employment in country.
