Thanks to Dave and all of you who make this such a valuable site; I'm happy to be a new member! I'd like to send this to the Newbie Forum, and then another more specific posting to the Turkey Forum.
I am halfway through a year's contract at Jiangsu University in Zhenjiang, China. I'm enjoying the place and teaching, but have decided to relocate somewhere out of East Asia after December.
Where would you experienced people recommend? I'm 57, have a PhD in history from UCLA, a TEFL certificate from Oxford Seminars, experience teaching history and library skills at the college level, a year's experience as a teacher's assistant in ESL in Oregon, and now a year here in China, where I am teaching US and UK Society and Culture courses in addition to five sections of oral English.
My preference would be to relocate myself as close to Europe as possible (I'm a US citizen and have no EU passport). I'm very interested in Turkey and particularly Izmir, but am not sure about university positions, especially ones beginning in January. I would also be open to take college jobs in other countries who might want someone teaching culture classes as well as straight language courses. Failing this I could accept a job in a Turkish language school, and then possibly find a position for September 2011. Should I advertise proactively, post my resume, etc?
Thanks in advance to all of you who take the time to advise! |
