Hi everybody,
I'm a 26 year-old non-native speaker (Turkish/Swedish) who has been meaning to do the CELTA course for a while but have still not managed to make my choice with regards to the center to train in. I happen to have a BA in English Studies and an MA in an irrelevant field from a London university.
My intention is to teach in Istanbul for starters, and I would have considered doing the course in Istanbul were it not for the bad reputation I have heard about the centers in the city. Even though I want to start teaching in Istanbul, I would still love my training to be able to give me a chance to teach in other countries around the world.
The options I have in mind are Oxford House College and International House. Oxford House College has a center in Istanbul as well (no teacher training available, but would certainly be good for getting into a position later on?). There are no IH centres in Turkey but they do exist all over the planet.
What I would like to know is your experiences with both of these centers and their reputation as far as you are concerned plus the level of employability after training with them.
Thanks in advance!
--- Actually, after having looked through the posts a bit more, the centers in Istanbul do not seem to be so bad. So I have to ask if it is better to do the CELTA in the country you want to start teaching in even if the center is not an internationally recognized one and you want to be able to teach in other countries in the future? |
