Hi,
My boyfriend and I have been accepted into the STP beginning Sept 20 2010. I have never traveled abroad before and I am very nervous about committing to this course/job. It is only for 5 months, so I figure if I don't like it, it's not that long of a commitment, plus I will be with my boyfriend. It is a 3 week TEFL course that costs $950 and then the job placement "somewhere in Thailand" is guaranteed at 30,000B a month plus accommodation. Is this a good way to start out teaching English? I know the pay is not much, but we live a simple lifestyle and are expecting to be able to save a little bit while in Thailand, we are also bringing some money. It should at least be the adventure we are looking for! I figure after this 5 month experience we can decide if we like teaching English enough to go get higher paying jobs in Korea or Japan.
Has anyone done this course? Is anyone else signed up for it?
ANY ADVICE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Thank you! |

these kinds of deals are not uncommon. i've not heard of your organization here but some schools like ECC who do the CELTA courses offer jobs to teachers after the course.
but the question is why work for B. 30, 000 when you can go out and find a job maybe for B. 40, 000 or more with accommodation. |

Check the many posts on here about placement agencies or TEFL academies who offer to place you (beware--'anywhere' in Thailand).
There is never a free lunch. etc.
