Has anyone out there been to Meizhou City? What's it like? What's there to do and see around there? Would it be a reasonable place to live? |

What a shame! Having been in Guangdong for so many years (and I mean MANY YEARS), I never made it to Meizhou, though my train to Shantou stopped there for three minutes.
All I know is the majority of natives there are Hakka, in Mandarin Keja people; a subjective impression: they are more refined than the average Cantonese yokels!
There is an island called 'Meizhou' in Fujian province, a Taoist retreat. That's a scenic spot but it has no schools. |

Hello from Meizhou,
I've been teaching here for the past few years, so here's a quick summary of the sights.
Meizhou's a small city that's surrounded by mountains and water. There's lots of outdoor activity like hiking the nearby mountains and cycling around the countryside. There's the usual attractions: Yue Nan Fay tea planation (where you could stay at the luxury villas!), Yaming Hu
(a man-made lake) where there's various activities such as a modified bungee toss, gliding, grass skiing, etc. As well, there's a temple.
Luxurious, large homes are found in Meizhou's Overseas Chinese Village--the home of the wealthy in this city. Around this neighbourhood, the shops and eating places are in the upscale category.
Meizhou worth visiting for a day or two to unwind and enjoy the relaxed pace of life in this charming part of southern China.
Have you been here yet? |
