Due to personal circumstances I'm looking for a job which will enable me to spend half the year in London and half in Budapest. Is it possible to work in TEFL this way?
Ie, can one teach for just one or two terms at a time, or do schools expect one to sign up for an entire academic year? |

It is possible to finish an academic contract when another teacher has bailed-e.g., after the holidays--someone goes home for the holidays and just never returns. Schools in such situations will likely need immediate replacements, and you can work from January to June-ish.

It is possible.
Many schools in China will hire for single term or whole year. You CAN land these jobs from abroad.
The only significant difference is that airfare is often NOT included in short term placements.
For most other countries and short term placements you will need to be "on the ground" and available for an "in person" interview to present your resume and credentials, and possibly do a short "demo lesson" as well.
