Unless it's an old Steinway, it'd probably be cheaper just to buy one in Nam.
Are you that attached to it? And if you are, why risk transporting it, unless you are planning to stay here for good? |

Take a leaf out of the local's book and hire a cylo driver to carry it for you. Those guys will carry anything. I'm sure you can find a guy who will take not only your grand piano but also your piano stool, sheet music, tuxedo and candalabra. Ask a Vietnamese friend to agree a price beforehand, and steadfastly decline to pay a tip afterwards if one is asked for- paying extra will set a dangerous precedent and make things more difficult for the next person who needs their grand piano transported. I bet you could get the whole job done for a couple of hundred thousand dong. I don't know about the customs charges and so on because I have never tried this myself, not being musically inclined.
Anyway, that's my advice. Let us know how things pan out. |

Piano will definitely float. So if it was me, I would simply paddle it from US. Could stop in Hawaii if time permits, but otherwise just push on through. Just my two cents, as I am not musically inclined. |

I suggest you just set it on fire. It will surely be there in the after life when you arrive. As for the extra "charges" , I am not sure.
I am sure there is dual priceing there too.
Just my two cents as I am not musically inclined. |

I'm a muso. Suggestion- Unless you intend living here long term-leave it at home and buy an electric portable keyboard when you get here.
Most popular brands are here from Roland to Chinese rip-offs, and a lot easier to get up the narrow stairs than a grand.
I AM musically inclined, but wouldn't entertain the thought. |

You can rent a piano here for fairly reasonable rates. I priced a stand up for 70 usd a month and there's also an option to buy one here, the place I went actually offered to buy it back from me when I leave... |

OK, shane, you got me on this one.
But the bicycle idea sounds best to me, though.
