This is my first post, please go easy on me. And yes, I have read all the warnings about staying clear of AETG but I am still considering the offer since it is the highest one yet. My question: has anyone ever worked an AETG contract and not been completely miserable? I will say immediately that I am strictly in this for the money so I can pay down my student loans and spend some time traveling before settling into a more permanent position and/or going back to school.
Before you ask, here are the basics:
My qualifications:
-BA in English literature/linguistics
-Master's Certificate in TESL from an American University-this is essentially a master's degree minus two classes and the thesis. I intend to complete this but needed a break from all of this schooling
-Two years teaching English composition to native and nn speakers at the university level.
-Three years teaching ESL to adult immigrant and refugee students.
The AETG package:
-Ten months for $40,000.00 US
-Housing in some kind of hotel (private and furnished)
-air fare, health, and so on..
-As for the hours I will quote the recruiter: "Your classroom teaching hours will be 25-30 hours with 10-15 hours of supplementary hours: office hours, prep time, exams etc. Your work week should be no more than a 40 hour work week." This seems pretty high to me, but I think I can do it.
A bit about me:
I have no illusions that I will go to SA and do anything except keep my head down, teach what they tell me to teach, collect my paycheck, and go. With all this in mind how miserable will I be if I accept this contract and make my way to the kingdom? Thanks in advance. |
