My boyfriend and I are looking into opportunities to teach in Peru (or anywhere in South America, for that matter). I am currently enrolled in a TESL course and he plans to take it in January. We will be free to leave after the first week of June 2011. Is it wise to shop around for jobs now, or should we wait until next year? Also, when are the typical start dates? Are they flexible with mid-year arrivals? I've been reading a lot of blogs and other forums lately and it seems it can be rather difficult to make a living in South America. Do you think it will be possible to pay bills at home (student loans) and live comfortably? Any other advice you can give about finding a job, when to apply and where to go is much appreciated.
Thanks!!

HOnestly, unless you're an intl school teacher, it's hard to get back and pay student loans. You'll make about 500 to 1000 a month. Start dates are often in March and August. Last week of July is a major holiday. BUt institutes hire year round.

YOu can live well, minimum salary in Peru is 175 dollars. About finding a job, it's rare to get one before arriving, but there is a university in Piura that hires and pays about 700 a month. It's in the PM I sent you
