Hello
I have read the previous posts on GlobalTechSkyline and Al Jouf and Tabuk and I've read the posts on the European Centre. This language school (not any) EC vs. the university position say in Tabuk or al Jouf. I have never taught in KSA. I taught in Nizwa for a year and didn't care for university students in the tech college there. It was OK. Money was good. Spent half the time or more on classroom management. I like the Omanis but not as students. The thing that appeals to me about the language school or teaching business Eng. for a client is that you are not in a university atmosphere but in a smaller complex and when your through take a break and sort of get away until next class. I don't know how it works at EC. Whereas in the university well I expect more of classroom management and larger class with the same students throughout the time. No paid holidays at the EC but can make money extra overtime. I'm debating Skyline vs. EC. I read that EC is British run and I figure Skyline is Arabic. There are even other opportunities. The best was/is those 5000USD$/mth deals where you have to go to London or the US (I live in Thailand) for visa and all kinds of background stuff.
I have a Masters in Education and 13+ yrs. teaching exp with 1 yr. also in Oman. I have been marketing myself out.
I look for those interviews where I can get the facts quick and as truthful. I have only found 2-3 companies of which I'm comfortable with thus far and that is because of my direct access to them and the transparency, though one can never know and that is the adventure of it all.
There is just no way of knowing about these KSA companies until you just commit and jump in.
Any other info on the comparisons of language schools vs. universities.
Having been in Oman but not KSA I would say from the reading I've done that having good resources more than a crap book and a firm hold on control with students and a pad that is clean and to know my immediate boss well. If that works I will click. Paid on time also is key. I guess I want to much huh. Then Pay is first if all else is NOT.
Any thoughts .......of which some of you will answer on everything but my subject. 1 or 2 decent comments is cool. By the way i know the salary difference for the standard pay.....univ is more but EC has chance to also make more on extra classes. Who's worked at Skyline vs. EC? In some ways yes EC is under my qualifications but like i said i prefer a smaller group at a language school or company vs. a chaotic university. So what's the deal out there? |
