I came across this post. Sounds interesting. And only a month. Anyone have any idea what the pay would be?

Smile 5 months of paid vacation means that I don't have to be stuck in Asia the whole time . Though that will be changing soon, my husband will be moving back to Korea early next year.

I am not familiar with this contract (and the skill set required is very high), but I know people who have worked with AED over the past few years - including this year - and they pay very well and will deliver what they promise.

Haven't a clue... but a couple of the teachers I know that had contracts in other countries were getting 6 figure salaries. They both had directly related experience and years of experience in the Middle East (10-20 years).

Dear Cool Teacher,

What must be remembered is one person's idea of "living" may be quite different from another's.

Have you seen "The Hurt Locker?"

Regards,
John

Dear scot47,

I'd go in a heartbeat - but then, I AM crazy Twisted Evil

After I was medevaced from Vietnam to the Naval Hospital in Japan, I was told that I wouldn't be sent back to Chu Lai. But I wanted to go back, so I sent a letter to Secretary of Defense McNamara arguing my case.
He turned me down.

I repeat - "living" means different things to different people. So, I don't think that anyone is wrong because he/she disagrees with me.

Regards,
John

A former Gulag buddy spent a happy summer in Kurdistan on a short-term contract. He said it is relatively safer than Baghdad. You might want to try the American University of Kurdistan.

Or maybe not if you read the threads here and some of the blogs about it. Cool Yes, it is pretty safe up in Kurdistan, but the university is... shall we say that a few politically connected Americans and some equally well-connected Kurds are making out like bandits with American tax dollars... millions and millions of them...

But the pay and benefits for EFL teachers is paltry at best...

My friend worked there for 3 months and saved almost 10,000 dollars. He said there wasn't much to spend it on. The worst part was the big fire in a hotel or something like that. He found the Kurds were no more crooked than the Qataris. That was a quote.

Just as in Qatar (or America)... some are more crooked than others. Laughing In his short time there, he probably missed out on much of the politics and gossip.
