Hey everybody, Planning to come to Vietnam soon and I've had a job offer from ILA, about $1.5k monthly before tax for 82 hours a week, overtime paid at $21 an hour. This seems like a good offer to me, I've heard some conflicting things about ILA but overall the consensus seems to be that they are a decent school.
Now the thing is I've also had an interview with VUS, with whom I'm still waiting to hear back. A quick search shows some pretty negative comments about VUS flying around, so I'm wondering if I should just accept the ILA job now, or wait to see if an offer from VUS comes in. I know that unlike ILA, VUS pays your taxes for you, so I wonder if the pay there might be better.
What do you guys think? Should I steer clear of VUS or wait and see what they have to say? Thanks! |

For 82 hours a week (which seems like an impossible schedule) you should be making around $6k per month or possibly more!
Something just doesn't sound right, are you sure about this? |

I think you mean 82 hours per MONTH not per week.
Thats a pretty fair and usual amount for such a schedule.
Comparing the two-ILA and VUS, lets just say that one is foreign owned and run, and the other is Vietnamese, despite the name seeming like it might be American.
If ILA is a roast chicken dinner, then VUS is a stale piece of unbuttered toast.
Sure they pay your tax, but at a much lower rate of pay, they can afford to. Most people I know who started work there were quoted $20+ per hour, but later were offered $15 after their "trial" lesson.
ILA may not be the best gig in town, but at least they are honest and deliver what they promise. They ARE reasonably well organized, and generally have a clean inviting environment in which to work. |
