Hi everyone,

Do you have to have a Masters Degree to get a teaching job in Saudi Arabia, or any other Middle East country?

I do not. I have a 4 year BA in Communications from a Canadian University, an advanced TESOL Diploma and I have just started my 5th year of teaching: 1 year in S. Korea, 3 in Laos 2 of which were at an International School. I now teach at Rattana Business Administration College in Vientiane, Laos.

Any sugestions regarding reputable recruiters for that area?

I will be 50 this Christmas. Does that work against me?

Thanks a lot.

Employers all SAY that they want an MA. They will settle for less - particualrly from mature candidates with gfood, relevant teachinbg experience. I think you should be able to get a job quite easliy. Read the threads here for ideas about who to apply to. Send me a personal message if you wish.

Thanks scot47. Apparently I can't pm you because I have not written 5 posts! Very Happy

Oh well, I'm one closer now eh! I would like to go to hopefully save up a bit of money. My wife is Laotian and she would stay in Laos while I was away.

Can you pm me? I mean, do I have to have 5 posts to be able to receive pm's?

I'll look around for recruiters for that region.

Thanks again

Scot is right.

In their ads, most employers say they want an MA, but if you have good experience, especially teaching at third level, you stand a chance of getting a decent job.

As for age, Saudi employers tend to be much less ageist than many TEFL employers. Many of them actually prefer more 'mature' teachers.

Without an MA, you have the most chances in Saudi or Oman. You will make more money in Saudi, but Oman is a more pleasant place to live and work... and you could more easily bring your wife along if you wished.
