Hey guys, I plan on finishing my BA in English Lit *beep* laude and then attending either Columbia uni or NYU for my MA in TESOL with NYS teacher certification. Now what I am wondering is whether or not EDB hires newly graduated MA in TESOL students without any prior teaching experience besides whatever practicum's we may have during our graduate studies. Honestly, I've been eyeing the NET scheme since second year of my undergraduate studies so I've basically tried to gear my entire academic career toward landing this gig, so I'm wondering what the chances are with my current and future plans. If this information is also valuable I'd like to add that I'm also fluent in Cantonese, and if all things go to plan I'd be 24 when my degrees are done and I apply for the net scheme.

Cheers!

The EdB prefers its NET teachers to have post-qualification experience - at least a year or two, preferably more. Whether or not they'd recruit a fresh graduate would depend on how desperate they are.

interesting... even for primary school teachers? I see the requirement for SNET is one year of experience minimum, but it seems that for primary school net's the requirement of experience is not there?

That may well be the case - I wouldn't claim to be an expert on their recruitment policy. It stands to reason that they'd prefer experienced teachers, but if they receive insufficient experienced recruits then perhaps you'd be in with a chance. No harm in sending an application!
