|
Just returned from Seoul with my wife for a nice 3 day vacation, and had an interesting talk with 2 Pakistanis who claim to have worked 1 year in KL, lived in Bukit Bintang, and advised us not to go there, as they considered KL to be dangerous. Of course I was a bit surprised and skeptical as well, but want to run it past you KL buffs. These 2 guys now own a Paki restaurant in Seoul, seem respectable, so it made a bit of an impression on us. They said specifically there are several streets in KL where "indonesians" often stick people up in small petty thefts, often wielding knives. It sounds a bit suspect to me, but still want to hear from you all. Thank you. p.s. being from the NYC area all my life, I've seen quite alot of that crap, and I guess all big cities have some amount of it. |

I know you are from the US and therefore do not know better, but the term paki is considered very racist in the uk. Secondly,
bukit bintang is fine. |

You are right I wouldn't know the term Paki is racist in the UK. I have several Pakistani friends in New Jersey, all came to the US directly from Lahore or Rawalpindi and bypassed the UK. I clearly recall all of us using the term Paki regularly without any intention/mention of it being racist. Perhaps in the US, amongst good friends from Pakistan, that negative usage is not employed. Thanks for the info on that term! Won't be using it in the UK, if I ever plan on going there. |

well yes, the kim chee would be a risk, what about the formidable "dwenjang-guk", which could knock an ox a city block.?
seriously, no problem areas in KL, as per unusually-high rates of pick-pocketing or even mugging-by-knife? |
