I am looking for a Tefl post at a good school in China. The school must have a good reputation and I would like to hear from teachers who have no hesitation with referals. [/b] |

Pardon my ignorance what does that mean? I was and I still am hoping to get helpful responses to my enquiry. |

So as a person who is unknown to everyone you expect a referral to a decent school from someone.
Let me ask back, would you give a job referral to some unknown dude off the street or suggest that they go to your employer asking for a job?
Would you rather do that or suggest the position to someone you know, have some history with, are aware of their qualifications and/or work habits/ethic?
Get out the lawn chair, this will be a long wait.
(also, finding what YOU consider to be a good school with a good reputation may be just as difficult).
To put it further into perspective, do YOU have any qualifications that would place you in contention for a post at a "good school"?
Perhaps you have a degree in education, post grad qualifications in ESL and many years of experience?
Perhaps your only claim to fame is a 60 hour on-line TEFL course and the ability to speak English?
Perhaps you only have a high school diploma? Perhaps not even that?
It all makes a difference.

I need a new girlfriend. Does anybody have any recommendations?
OP. Your question depends on what you want; good money, active foreign teachers' social life, professional development, sociable hours.
My old school was pretty good.
Would you like it? Who knows?
Would they like you based on this somewhat lazy enquiry to the wisdom of the crowd? Almost certainly not.
Should you believe me when I say that my old school was quite good? Not unless you're foolishly trusting. |

I don't have a school to recommend specifically, but I can give you advice on things to look for:
-decent pay. I wouldn't take it if it is too low.
-reasonable hours, especially relative to the pay
-favorable working conditions
-decent benefits. You can't always go by RMB alone.
-a good location
Hope this helps! |

Good schools can attract, and keep, good teachers.
That means a group of professional, responsible teachers who form a cohesive unit.
China's faculty lounges can harbor the addict, misfit, deviant, or criminal element simply because the hiring bar is so low.
So, if you were a good teacher, working at a good school, and a complete noob (no offense meant) gave a general shout out asking for names of good schools, while offering zero bio info, how quick would you be to offer up a vacancy at your school?
Nothing personal, but China, in my experience, just doesn't work that way.
Not to mention the P.M.s you might get from shills for illegal/dodgy outfits.
You might want to start out describing your qualifications and what specifics you ate looking for in climate, city size, activities, teaching load and level, salary, etc. to get more targeted answers.
Best wishes. |
