I just received an offer from this school. Does anyone know anything about it, or anything interesting about haikou in general. By the way, the head teacher's name is Catherine Zhang.
thanks (many) |

I cant tell you about the school, but I was in Hainan for almost 2 years from 2006 - 2008. I visited Haikou often.
Of course, Hainan is HOT ... and uncomfortably so for most of the year, a blue sky in summer often means staying home with the air con on, or perhaps that was just me. I think Haikou is probably a typical small city in China, but it is still very Chinese ... ie, not a lot of Western things there. There was one Western Bar I used to visit, but pretty much all the entertainment is Chinese. Fewer foreigners mean more of the 'hellooooo' everywhere you go, and you dont meet scores of people with great English skills either.
I did have a friend who was teaching Kindy in Haikou....havnt spoken to him for sometime, but I will PM you his email address. If he is still there perhaps he can give you a heads up. |

Sounds a lot different than Sanya, which is teeming with foreigners, mainly Russian, but lots of English speakers too...
Ive only disembarked ferries/buses in Haikou, so cant comment. Been to many nice places on Hainan though-you could do much worse in China. I also didnt find it as unbearably hot os Nick-it was basically 32c every day of every year. |

It was the humidity rather than the temperature. I never stayed there for the hottest summer months either so can imagine it is even worse then. I always went home for summer holidays and escaped it.
You're right about Sanya, I think most foreigners only really go to Hainan for Sanya really. |
