I have my interview with BKC-IH on wednesday, and figured I really need to look at some alternatives before I get into a "one-option" kind of situation. I still feel like BKC-IH is my best bet, if only because I know someone who went through the CELTA program, and taught there for many years who recommends it. It also seems like the most legit, if even a McSchool or whatever.
In other words, it seems like the most legit way for me to get my foot in the door.
I did however just apply for Language Corps. I could not find much about them, but the fact that they are in St. Petersburg is a big plus- I have been to St. Petersburg before and would enjoy a program that at least had that added familiarity. However, from what I could find (or could not find, rather), I am not so confident their TESOL program is as legitimate or would be as well/widely recognized.
Any comments?
My concerns at this point are almost entirely on the CELTA/TESOL training. Getting a job will certainly be great, and good placement rates and assistance is a huge bonus- but I am not really avoiding places based on their pay rates etc.
Thanks!
(P.S. Any other recommendations? I was looking at the American Language Master program, but I am not sure if the 80 hours online (20 in person) would qualify as well/widely accepted TESOL standards?). |

CELTA is your only real option in Russia in terms of legitimacy. Forget in-house training. Ditto on-line courses. Worthless rubbish for the most part... |

Language Corps never says CELTA so it would probably be safe to assume it is not. That being said, their training standards, at first glance, may be even more intense (140 hour program, for example).
I know it could vary school-by-school but is the CELTA title worth it even versus a similar, or even more intense, program? I certainly prefer the CELTA option since that is probably also the only thing that will have any use/applicability back home. |

As far as I know the only CELTA course on offer in Russia is with BKC-IH Moscow. However, a CELTA is basically a CELTA no matter where you do it. It has international brand-name recognition. The other course you mentioned, while it may or may not be up to snuff, will be virtually unknown outside of its own school. I'd go with a CELTA any day over an unknown... |
