I was reading on a forum today about someone complaining that they cant find a suitable place for 60000 rmb in Shanghai.
It makes me laugh when I think of esl wages when you see that companies are shelling out 60000 rmb a month just for the housing on some contracts. The person is complaining at that rate. |

any idea where he was working? Or what job / company he worked for? I'll assume he is not a standard ESL teacher, either that or he has amazing bargaining skills. |

Getting over 8K USD/month for housing and still whining. Sounds like a silver spooned *beep*.
Even if it was just salary, over 100,000 USD a year while in China. I'd be highly skeptical of such people. |

must be 60 000 for the whole year's rent, 5000 RMB per month.
If you're used to a good standard of housing before coming to China, I can easily imagine being unsatisfied with the <5000RMBpcm stock in Shangers.
One can imagine that a professional, drawn here by his career track, would expect to live with noise and heat insulation, quality fittings, safe powerpoints etc. These are all features of upper-middle end housing, the 5000+ bracket. |

Probably some richie rich American who thinks apartments are for poor people and can't stand to live in anything without its own lawn, a nice privacy fence, a driveway, and a 3 car garage. |

no they mean 60000 per month- the real estate person is on there saying they need to spend 70000 to get a decent place.
truth is expats get taking for a ride and their companies are willing to dish out 60000 a month because they are stupid.
plus kids tuition plus car and driver, plus , plus , plus.
just goes to show you the wages at the top and wastage at the top of society was not fixed by the global recession and lessons have not been learned. |

It is not surprising for a top-level expatriate package. This would be for senior-level executive, probably the No. 1 or No. 2 person in China for a Fortune 500 company. Yes, it would be 60,000 RMB per month, not year.
And the housing is overpriced, no doubt. But neither the management nor the board cares, because it's just the shareholders' money, after all. |

if this senior level executive (which is what this thread is about) was being rewarded with the typical senior executive level compensation package but at the same time running their company into the ground then it's fair to say no lessons were learned from recent events.
but if this executive is doing their job and the company is performing well, then a top notch leader is worth every penny they're paid. |

And, take a good look who the majority of shareholders are. Really, it's a mission impossible since they are hidden so well. The local stock market's run from Beijing.
The Gini coefficient, that's a way worse than on the paper (local statisticians are magicians) , should alarm the whole world more than it has. |
