Could someone advise me as to the best broadand provider in Spain,. I am living in Madrid and looking for something fast and cheap, preferably with short term contracts but it's not a necessity. I would prefer advice from experience but would like to here anything people have to offer.

ONO's currently running like a dream for me, really fast 25Megas+. Had to pay the installation costs up front (about 120) for its internet and cable TV, but then there's no minimum contract, and you can get rid of it whenever you want.

We've got Ya.com - 20 euros a month for 1mb (real speed, they claim 10) downloads, plus free calls to Spanish landlines. Took 1 month to install, which is usual for any company that's not Telefonica (who spookily take one month to install their competitors services).

If you're in a hurry, I got a really good deal on a HSDPA dongle for my computer from Carrefour: 30 euros with 5 euros credit (pay-as-you-go), one day's connection costs 1.20, for up to 1 meg downloads (so normal surfing only, no videos or movies). You can get top-ups in Dia supermarkets. It did the job for me when I was on holiday this summer and needed to do a bit of work from home.

In my opinion, the best ISP is going to be Telefonica. I went with ya.com and another smaller provider (I forget the name) for about 6 months and both were like being on dial-up circa 1997.
