Greetings from a long-time lurker here :-]

I've been researching jobs in Istanbul (and living in Turkey) for over a year and now I am wondering if I even want to live in Istanbul. It isn't 'calling to me' the way I felt in the beginning of my research. I am not really a city person ... AND ... for the long term, I need more sun and sea (I am very Hawaiian in that sense!)

So, I am seeking work further south -- but, not necessarily full-time work (i.e., I am not so ambitious to want to compete for university posts or work so many hours that I can't explore and trek around.)

My advantages: -- Masters degree; college instructor for 12 years; taught k-12 (and preschool); taught ESL; world traveler; and have tutored and worked in multi-cultural environments.
My DISadvantages: -- no TESL/CELTA; age (59); no Turkish language (never been to Turkey); have no job offers; and ... ?? (Actually, I would like to know more about disadvantages; I may be blind to some.)

At this time, I plan to visit places (by October; I am in Italy now) and see how they 'fit me' -- so far I am looking at the Aegean and Mediterranean areas. I'd appreciate any advice/warnings/links that could help me plan (more logically). Also, any job possibilities, of course (even substitute positions).

I know I can't 'vagabond' around Turkey for long (I only have funds for a month or so) and that the visa issue will be complicated even if I do get a job offer. I also know I can do private lessons and a homestay or tutoring/etc. in exchange for a room, but I don't imagine I can depend on these. (It just would be nice to settle comfortably for a while before I need to decipher any contracts for work.)
