I checked out as far back as I could, but I couldn't find any threads on what one does about the drinking water situation (esp. Taichung area)...I've heard buy, boil, tablets, straight from the tap.......
Any suggestions/comments?
Thanks,
Ilja

As a general rule for all of Taiwan and any other third world non-nation.
Don't Drink the Water!

I heard a Republic of China public works official a couple of years ago on ICRT stating that the tap water in Taiwan is perfectly safe. The interviewer then asked her how to explain all the cases of deceases caused by contaminated water on Taiwan. She replied "What cases? There are no cases." Thats because the government of the R.O.C. does not investigate water contamination reports thus they don't exist and the water is safe to drink.
There was also a news report about industries dumping toxic waste into the water supply for Kaohsiung two years ago.
Boiling may not be enough to purify the water!
Welcome to Taiwan,
A.

If you pour the tap water in Taichung into a clear glass and then hold it up to the sun, you will never drink that water again. It is muddy, full of microbes, sometimes there are even little things swimming in it.

Boil the water for 10 minutes then put it through a Brita filter system. You can buy one of those at any RT Mart, Carrefour and the larger department stores.

Don't put bleach in the water. What idiot would do this?
