Hi there
I'm just starting to look for a TEFL position in Taiwan and was hoping for some advice on the best places to start looking for jobs
I've done a bit of scouring, but there is no where near the amount of sites/recruiters/etc as there is for China and SKorea.
Just to let you know I am
-TEFL certified
-Hold a BA
-Experienced
-Intend to work legally
Also - I do want to have a job secured in Taiwan before I fly out there
I apologise profusely as I'm sure threads like this must pop up all the time. But I really appreciate any assistance with my jobsearch and/or any insights into living and working in Taiwan
Cheers |

1st obtain a visiting visa from the nearest Taiwan Consulate.
2nd you could try finding a job through a recruiter or travel to Taiwan and search on foot. Taipei would be your best bet.
3rd bring two or three thousand or more USD.
4th look for a room to stay at.
5th bring all your documents, copies and passport photos
6th be prepared to do a 20 plus minute demo
7th if hired, you must get health check for your work ARC
Be advised that Taiwanese employers are mandated to withhold 20% of your taxes, and that you can get back about 14% of that the following year. |

You won't get back any of the tax for the rest of the year (withholding rate is 18%). Then you'll be taxed at 18% for the first 183 days you stay in Taiwan 2011. Then the rate goes down - can't remember what to... I think 6%.
If you want to get a job before you come in it'll need to be with one of the big companies.
Otherwise following the advice above would be a good idea. |

Thanks for the advice
I really need to have a job secured before I take a flight over to Taiwan however. I simply don't have the funds to survive weeks of job searching. Which will have come on top of paying for the flights, insurance, etc etc.
Anyone recommend the big companies?
Is it the case that most schools just hire teachers on a face to face basis? Its going to be hard to find a job from here in the UK if that is the case |

Hess, Kojen, Giraffe, GRAM... are some of the bigger groups. Keep in mind that they are big companies and will have a mixed reputation among many of the people posting on this forum! |
