Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find out where/how I can do a CELTA in Japan. I did a search and it was mentioned that it could be done, but I can't find any other details (the post implied that you can do the course in, ie on campus in Japan, as opposed to distance or online learning?).

I know there is an M.A course through the University of Birmingham, but I don't know how long I'll be staying in Japan so can't commit that long. I'll be based in Tokyo for a year starting this April, so would like something I can complete within the year if at all possible.

Thanks all.

Laura

Laura

the only CELTA course I know of is SIT CELTA in Kyoto and the Language Resources CELTA in Kobe. The next SIT course I believe is in August. Do a search on Kyoto SIT and you will find it.

I am presently studying through Birmingham and to my knowledge it is a distance learning course with the residency to be completed through David english House in Hiroshima. You can take the degree/ coursework with you if you leave Japan.

Thanks Paul.

I'll check out the course in Kyoto first, otherwise will try Birmingham.

There is a place in Motomachi, Kobe that offers the CELTA. The name of the place is 'Language Resources'. It is wickedly expensive (over 300,000 yen) and take five months. The courses runs Saturdays and Sundays.

I did mine in Bangkok with ECC (no relation to ECC Japan). For the price it costs here I paid for the course, accomodation in a hotel (3 star) for 5 weeks and food, smokes and beer. It took 4 weeks. A google search on 'ECC Thailand' should point you inthe right direction.

you can also do half a Masters in a year and get a piece of paper called "Graduate Certificate in Applied Linguistics" - many Aussie universities offer this.
