Hello,
So sorry if this a repetitive question.. I only recently found this site. I am seriously trying to find a teaching job abroad. I am a certified K-8 teacher with 3 years of experience and speak Spanish. I've been trying to find some legit programs that could help me get a job abroad. I need advice on the following programs: Teach Away, Teach Anywhere and also the Bhutan Canada Foundation. Teach Anywhere told me they place in international or private schools in Abu Dhabi, which sounds good to me, but they want me to give them all my papers-passport, teaching certificate..etc prior to getting set up for an interview-- I wanted to check first to see if this is a legit program before handing all my info over.
Teach Away told me they place in public schools and will be calling me back soon for an interview-via .
Bhutan Canada Foundation will be interviewing me next month via Skype. That one is to teach in rural villages but doesn't pay much.
Someone told me I should go to job fairs, but I don't really have it in my budget right now to pay the fees and airfare-hotel..etc. I'd love to teach in either the Middle East, Asia or Latin America. I would appreciate any advice. I want to avoid any program that is a scam or offers no support to their international teachers.

Dunno anything about any of those programmes, but never part with your passport, or certificates. Very strange request, from the sounds of it.

Tell them you cannot give originals of anything because everyone wants them, and it's impossible to have multiple copies of such things. Provide a certified copy, and if they balk, give them a pass.

You said you were interested in "Asia". Please realize how big that area is and the many countries and cultures it encompasses. Can you pin it down a bit? For now, I can tell you that a certified teacher is best suited for a job in international schools and they usually need 2 years of experience in their home country.

I am looking at India, Bhutan, South Korea, and Japan. Also interested in the Middle East-Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Cairo. I am also looking at the JET Programme for Japan. I do have 2 years experience..3 if you count a full year of substitute teaching. My friend told me the international job fair at Northern Iowa University is a good one and not as expensive as others so I may look into going to that one. Still hoping to know if Teach Anywhere or Teach Away are good programs. I did ask Teach Anywhere if copies were sufficient and they said yes.

I am working with Teach Away right now in hopes of earning an Abu Dhabi placement for January. They are legit and are the official recruiters for ADEC (Abu Dhabi Education Council). Or at least one of the official recruiters. I did some research on them myself, in addition to the recommendations offered in the Middle East forums (fora?) here. If you are interested in Abu Dhabi, they're your people. Just start collecting your paperwork now.

I can't speak to the other agencies you mentioned, but I do agree with the others who said don't send your original docs to anyone before even an interview.

One thing you can do is email scanned copies of your requested documents with assurance of original docs for review at the interview. This is what I did when I worked with another teacher agency in the UK, and it was an acceptable solution.
