I'm sure I speak for many here when I say I'm deeply shocked about what's just happened in Madrid. A lovely place, I visited it briefly in 2002..
Hope you and your loved ones are OK..
What is happening there now? Will the elections go ahead?
All the signs seem to be pointing to Al Qaeda or some such, now I think I have to be really worried about my own home town of London. |

I am sick about this. My wife and I love Madrid, we love Spain.
I have not being so moved, so upset, so outraged since 9-11 |

To all of you in Spain, I sincerely hope that you and all your loved ones are safe.
As I've been teaching in Indonesia for the past 2.5 years, I unfortunately know what you are going through. Watching the news yesterday brought back some painful memories.
Our thoughts are with you,
Take care. |

There aren't words to express how sad/sick/enraged this makes me. Although I'm relieved that my Spanish friends are okay, I ache for them when I think about what they're dealing with right now.
To those of you in Spain now, stay strong and stay safe. We're thinking about you, for whatever that's worth. |

Just wanted to express my condolences to everyone in Madrid, and throughout Spain. We New Yorkers have the unfortunate ability to empathize with you and I will continue to pray for peace, clarity of mind, hope and strength for all of you.

I'm having trouble finding the words to express how I feel about all this, but I hope everyone in Spain finds a way to recover from such a terrible event with strength and love. Sitting in my little town in Mexico, watching the protests in Spain on the news filled me with the hope that one day the entire planet will be joined together with the same goal.
Peace. |

A year ago, former President Jose Maria Aznar backed the invasion of Iraq, despite public opinion polls showing that more than 90% of the Spanish people were opposed to it. I hope he's feeling proud of himself. |

His party lost the election yesterday and most Spaniards I spoke to think he is responsible for the deaths and mutilations of all these people. The images we saw on TV were terrible, just terrible, maybe they should not have shown them. The new president has promised to take the troups out of Irak at the end of June and I hope he does so. |

Broadcasting shocking images is part and parcel of the TV news there, be it road accidents, shootings or bombings. I don't understand the rationale behind it. It certainly isn't for those with weak stomachs. |

Unfortunatlely, extremists are saying this is a success because they influenced the result of the elections. Without the terrible events of last week would the results( of the election) be the same? |

A Spanish friend of mine just sent me this website - it's a way to light an "e-candle" in memory of those who perished or were injured as a result of last Thursday's terrorist attacks in Madrid.
http://www.disinf.com/BastaYa.asp
It made me feel a little closer to my friends in Spain when I "lit" one little candle against the darkness of fanaticism and fear.

I've been wanting to talk to my Spanish friends about this, but in their grief and because they went to Madrid to look after their sister who was hurt, I haven't been able.
Time magazine recently had a special about Spain. In it, it talks about the possibility of the Socialist party winning the election, and they projected that they would get 37% of the votes. Also, one of the Socialist party's promises before the bombing was to remove the troops from Iraq.
What was the actual percentage of votes that the Socialist party received? I know it wasn't a majority. More people turned out to vote than last time, and maybe the bombing was the impetus that led them to do so.
I'm Australian, and 'my' government thinks troops should not be removed because it is playing into the hands of the terrorists, but is that really the case, or democracy finally getting to have a say?
